We went to an ELEPHANT PARADE in Surin Thailand

This weekend in Thailand is a national holiday as it marks the beginning of Buddhist lent. This is a 3 month period of lent and will end with the Loy Krathong festival in November.

Each province in Thailand will have its own way of celebrating this holiday but in Surin, the home of the elephants, they have a huge parade through the centre of the city. With various members of each village participating in dances, parading with candles and displaying their crafts, it’s an event you do not want to miss! The last part of the celebration is where Surin really shows its traditions and history as a large number of elephants join the parade, all beautifully decorated.

Thailand’s traditions and festivals are a huge part of the culture and we feel so lucky and proud to be able to share these with our children.

Next year make sure to take a trip to Surin and experience this amazing display for yourself!
